"Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee."
- Augustine of Hippo

This week, I had the opportunity to talk with my family via Skype, and it was amazing to see how much my family has grown and changed since I’ve seen them last. We had a week that flew by. We walked a lot, enjoyed the opportunities that presented themselves for us to talk with members and nonmembers, and enjoyed all that we did. We had such great moments of teaching and feeling the spirit as we taught the teachings of Christ. Truly, as we follow all that the Lord has given for us to follow, we shall be blessed, and we shall receive blessings beyond measure. I know that to be true because I have been able to witness it many times here in the mission.

Sorry that this email was really short. Not too much to report on without being repetitive. Love you all! Miracles are truly all around us!!

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."
- Luke 2: 10-12

This week, we have been working very hard as always. It has been a week of miracles. We have been able to find members of the church that haven’t come in awhile. Also, I have been having a great time being able to see what walking so much all day does to one's feet and legs. I will explain.

I have had to walk a lot here. It is a mission where there are no cars assigned to the missionaries, and we walk a lot, especially in my last two sectors. This one that I am in currently is closer to the mountains which means that I get to walk up and downhill all day long so, I have been having a lot of wear and tear on my knees. Consequently, now I have a knee brace. I sure am glad for modern day inventions that allow for me to have a knee brace and continue working in the service of the Lord!

Yesterday, I had a rough time with walking because of the pain in my knee. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but I was in a lot of pain. Each step brought me to almost tears, and we continued to walk up, and down... up, and down... well, all of our appointments fell through meaning we were still walking, and we weren’t able to get anyone to listen to us except for one person who gave us a follow up appointment. At about 8:00pm, we headed to another appointment that we had with a less-active member. We walked up the mountain (quite literally), and it was awesome to get to the house because I could rest my aching feet. We walked in and got to know this member. It was amazing. During the lesson, we taught about how everything we do in the church leads to the temple, and while we are teaching, this less-active member's sister walks in. She is also a less-active member but lives in a different home. Then, her mother who is also less-active and in a different home showed up, and we taught them along with their sister we were visiting about how they can enjoy of the blessings of the temple. It was awesome!!! They all committed to come this next Sunday!!

We also had a lesson this week with a man who is not a member. We were able to talk to him about turning our beliefs in God into action. It was amazing to see his receptiveness. At the end of the lesson, he told us what he had done to other missionaries that had come by before. Needless to say, we were protected by the Spirit of the Lord who was able to soften his heart to listen to us. Miracles do truly exist!! I am a living witness to it! I know this is the church of Jesus Christ, that He is at the head of this organization, and that we truly do follow Him. Yo les quiero a todos... y les animo a que puedan acercarse aun mas a Cristo en este temporado de la Navidad. Les amo! (I love you all, and encourage you all to come closer to Christ this Christmas season. I love all of you!)

"The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God."
- C.S. Lewis

Well, this week sure has been fun! With all the Christmas spirit that comes here, it sure is amazing to see all the people who truly know what the season is all about, which sadly aren’t many. BUT, that is why I am here as a missionary, to help people come to a knowledge of why they need to come unto Christ! For truly we are in a time that explains itself... Christ-mas, or Mas Cristo, or More Christ. A wonderful thing that you all should know can be found here at www.mormon.org/christmas . It is a link to a web page all about the meaning of Christmas. For unto us, a Son is given. Truly now is a time for us to remember why He came. For unto us is born a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

From Him, men are saved from all things that are short of the glory of God. This is truly a moment for us to remember that through Him and because of Him we may be saved. We can truly be saved from WHATEVER it is that may hold us down and keep us feeling sad, hurt, and depressed... whatever it may be. It is a time for rejoicing, for us to remember or start to remember that because of Him, we may start over as many times as needed. Because of Him, we are able to be supported in our trials. How great is it that we may come unto Him and receive all that He and our Father in Heaven have?

This week, we were able to talk to many people about everything that this season means to us. It has been great for me to be out and talking especially since I’m in an apartment of missionaries that get sick and injured often... I being one of them. This week, I had to stay home a couple of times due to pain in my knee, but I was also able to use the time to study the scriptures and see all that the Lord has to offer to those who come unto Him.

A great week to you all, and I hope you all have a great Christmas season!!!

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing."
- Helen Keller

This week we had transfers, and I was moved to an area called Nuevo Amanecer. It is a lovely place with a nice field and lots of walking to do! It is so beautiful to be nestled right up against the mountains with a nice view of the whole city of Santiago. It is a wonderful sector and it's made even better because I am with a new companion who I have lived with before. It is a great pleasure to be with him again. It is a really small ward of like 40 people who normally attend, so there is a lot of work to be done here. It is a ward filled with return missionaries and people who are willing to work with us, so that's a big bonus!

Elder Gale with his apartment companions: Elder Woolley, Elder Johnson, and Elder White.

I am now with a companion named Elder Johnson. He is from Hawaii, and he is so cool! We had a week of me getting to know the sector and working like a dog to get this area even more beautiful! It will definitely be a great focus on making a ministry of love here. I'm so glad to be here in this area that I still don't now much about, and it really will be a great time to work!

The sun is rising again on Nuevo Amanecer!!!

"Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier."
- Mother Teresa

To start off this weekly update, I’m getting changed to a new sector after having been here for almost 6 months. I’m deeply saddened because I have come to love those that live here. It has been a pleasure to walk up and down the streets here, find the lost sheep of the Lord, and try to help them come back to the fold. Although I have been rejected in this sector, I’m glad to have tried. I’m glad to have worked. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to make a difference in at least one person`s life. I feel that this sector has been great for me to feel the power of the Savior's Atonement as I’ve been working my tail off. I’ve done my part, and I’ve waited for the Savior's blessings to be poured out upon me. I have been able to see miracles that are so small, if not unnoticeable. I’ve been filled with joy for the One I’ve been able to talk with in the day, and I’ve been filled with pain and sorrow for the 99 that have rejected us.

Peruvian Dinner

I wrote someone an email just a few seconds ago, and I like what I wrote, so I’m going to copy it into this weekly update. "The thing is, the mission is hard, and it is made to help us change and grow, sometimes in ways that are hard and uncomfortable. But, even though it may hurt at times, it is for us to grow and become better than we once were. It is true that looking from the outside, it appears painful. Inside it does too, but looking through the forger's eyes, you are able to see that it is necessary. To change a metal, it must go through long periods of time being treated with high temperatures. Then it is worked on by instruments, changing it from what it once was. But in the end, it comes out to what the forger sees it to become, as long as it can withstand the heat and the treatment. So, I guess that the mission has been amazing for me. I still have plenty of time and more trials to go through. And then comes life afterwards. But in the end, I hope I can just withstand the heat."

So, just a reminder for all of you to keep moving forward. With time, it all will make sense, and we will come off triumphant. A favorite scripture of mine says the following, speaking of the doctrine of Christ, "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life." May we do the same. May we persevere to the end. We must overcome whatever trials come within our path. And WE CAN, but only if we do so with the help of the Lord.

I love you all, and I’m so glad to be here, to be a representative of Christ, to be here proclaiming His gospel. The joy that comes after so much heartache, so much effort, is so great. I’m glad to be here. I love you all. Keep growing in your testimonies of the Savior. In my final words, like those of Jacob of olden times, "O be wise; what can I say more?"

"A single tiny light creates a space where darkness cannot exist. The light vanquishes the darkness. Try as it might, the darkness cannot conquer the light."
- Donald L. Hicks

This week was different to say the least. We had a blackout in my part of the sector, and it happened twice!! The power just went out. It was fun to do planning by the moonlight. It actually happened just as we were entering our apartment building, and it cut. It was amazing.

This week, we had a cool fireside devotional with our mission president, and he talked a lot about how we can better our personal ministries to help those around us come unto Christ. He focused a lot on 1 Nephi 8 and made a lot of emphasis on how Lehi beckoned others to come and partake of the fruit. He talked to everyone he saw, trying to beckon them to partake. We must all do the same, trying to help EVERYONE come to know of the great gift from God that we have. Share the goodness!!

The mission is amazing, and I hope that one day many of you will be able to experience the same joy that I have. Some of you will have to wait for a long time before you go on a mission, but you can stat now by sharing the knowledge that you have with those around you. Share your testimonies at all times and in any circumstances.

"Life is beautiful, but people are crazy."
- Charles Osgood

Well, starting with the craziness;
1. Today we went to a zoo.
2. We had "Tokyo Drift" going on in the sector.
3. A crazy man with an axe story.

We went to a zoo today as an apartment of elders and some members. It was pretty dang awesome to see some unique animals and get out and do something different. It was awesome to see how the animals are all different and to watch them up close! I saw penguins today which were pretty cool. It was fun to go with those members and build some memories with them.

"Tokyo Drift" happened on Saturday. We were walking through the sector, and we suddenly heard in the distance crazy shouting and hollering. Then we see a car coming super fast towards us, and they start to fishtail as they brake. They go around a corner drifting. It was pretty cool to watch as a second car did it too, and then came the cops... and a lot of them: motorcycle cops, normal police cruisers, bigger cop cars, and finally the REALLY big cop cars. It was fun to watch as they went after them in pursuit.

So on Friday, we were looking for a person that had gone to church before, but this person had stopped coming and seemed to have disappeared. We went to the address, and here in Chile, instead of knocking the door, we shout, "ALOOOOOOH!!!" The person came around the corner from the house to speak to us. He tells us politely that the person we were looking for wasn’t there, and that they, in fact, didn’t live there. So we left and went to ask one of the neighbors. Next thing we know, this guy is leaving his house with an axe going to talk to some guy by the beer shop. He's telling him that he is ready to fight if the guy doesn’t leave. That was interesting to watch and hear, and so we left to our appointment, walking really fast. You know the superhero "the Flash"? It was something like that.

The work here is going well. We are working so hard out here. The blessings are literally flowing here, just not in the way that many people think that they normally do. One thing is for sure though: I am definitely the happiest missionary that the Lord has in the mission field! The miracles never cease here! Sometimes one may fail to see them, but they always happen.

I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

"To succeed in your mission, you must have a single-minded devotion to your goal."
- A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Halloween came and went. We had an amazing activity where we used to trunks of the cars for the children to do their trick or treating. It was awesome to have seen something so American happen here in Chile! We had a really great week where we had a few lessons that will be unforgettable! We have found a person who was willing to hear us teach about how families can be eternal. We got there to teach, and we just had what seemed like a normal conversation! It was amazing! We talked about how this is the Church of Jesus Christ, how we have been given priesthood authority by Christ, and how His teachings which have been restored are what we need to have a true peace in this life. It was amazing how this man was so humble. As we asked if that peace was something he would like, he said, "Yes, in fact, it is what I need."

We also were contacting in the farthest part of our sector where we don't normally go. We were really thirsty while doing this, so we knocked on a door and asked for water. As we drank, we talked with the person, and they started to be really receptive to what we said. We started to talk about the church. She also became very excited, and it was really amazing to see how she could recognize the need that she had for the "living water"of Christ

This week was full of many other miracles, all of which were amazing and unique in their own way. I just want you all to know that our Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers. It may not always come when we want it (and frankly, it almost never does), but those answers do come when the Lord knows we need it at the opportune moment. I love you all and hope you have a great week!

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
- H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Well, I would love to start off this letter saying that we have baptized the whole area, and that through all who hate us, love us...  we had a lot of teaching appointments this week, but alas, it is not so.

This week, more than anything, we have taught in the streets. We talk and talk with lots of people, we set appointments, but they are never there. We have been able to see the hand of the Lord in a much different way this week in that we have been able to see that He works in mysterious ways, showing us people who are not prepared. I guess we are called here to be planters of the word of God. That way, when some other missionary comes along, they will be willing to listen.

This week has been crazy with all the contacts in the streets and with being rejected, but I still love the work. I will not and I cannot be discouraged while I am here in the service of God. I’m so glad to be here. I have truly received a wonderful gift from God to be able to understand more about the Atonement of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. I’m so glad to be here. I hope that you all can come to a closer knowledge of the love of God.

Have an amazing week!

"If one drop of rain can find its way to the ocean, one prayer can find its way to God."
- Linda Poindexter

This week was amazing. I really loved everything that happened. We were working as usual, and it was a week where I was able to really rebound from all the setbacks: people being rude, people saying inappropriate things about us, the usual.

We had the glorious blessing of rain again here in Chile, and not just a little rain, but a lot! It wasn’t all week long, but it rained really strong here. It’s great to be in an area where it really rains. It was really amazing to work here and enjoy it all! This week was full of us finding out that people can be so rude. It’s crazy how some people here are so rude, and yet others are so kind. We were walking in the streets one day, and a man who is well known to me as a man who usually says inappropriate comments about the church and Joseph Smith approached me. It was interesting to have him approach us, greet us, and invite us to follow him. Not saying that we weren’t freaked out, but we were confident in the protective power of God in these moments. We followed him, and he led us to his home. We entered and met his mother of about 75 years. It was a weird, but great, and surprising moment of time where we could share a little with the family. We were able to teach them a little about the restoration of the church. It was amazing to get to know his family and the great love that they have for him. They worry about him always because he goes out in the streets all day, and he has so much potential to be a greater man. If he would only stop drinking so much...

Well, I have been able to learn so much in the mission field, and I've now been here for one year and 3 months! Crazy, right?? But, in my time, I have been able to learn that the tender mercies of God are real, and that He is always mindful of us. I know that. I hope that you all can come to knowledge of that as well. I love you all and hope you have a great week.

"Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled. What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same."
- D&C 1:37-38

This week was rough. I guess I’ll start with today. I was going to the clinic to get my rabies shot, and as I said hello to someone, they spit on me. It was really hard to wrap my mind around. I had just been spit on by someone. I wanted to grab that lady and say, "Excuse me?? What did I do to deserve that?" But, I didn’t. I felt like how Elder Holland described it: standing shoulder to shoulder with the greatest man who had ever walked this planet, who did no wrong. It was a moment for me to feel a pain similar to that which the Lord felt when He was rejected, spit upon, and cast out.

And that was just today... I won’t begin to list all the other things that were said or done to me this week, but it was hard to be able to hold my head high and smile. But, I’m a missionary, and I am happy. I will not back down to opposition.

This week was also a week that was filled with sweetness. We were able to find several people who wanted to hear from us. We had a baptism in the ward of two young women who had prepared themselves to be baptized! It was a week that was truly bittersweet, and I feel like it was a week for me to be tested in my faith, patience, and charity for the people here.

The scripture that I’ve had on my mind this week is found in D&C 1:37-38. It basically says that all things that the Lord has said shall be fulfilled, and whether by His voice, or the voice of His servants, it is the same. I’ve been thinking a lot about that to remember everything that He has promised me and to everyone else shall be fulfilled. We shall be given all the blessings that God promises us if we are obedient and faithful.

I love you all and I hope that you all continue to enjoy what happens daily!

"Decide now to make general conference a priority in your life. Decide to listen carefully and follow the teachings that are given."
- Paul V. Johnson

It has been a week filled with revelation! I have been able to see a lot of what our beloved Heavenly Father wants for us, His children, and all that He has to offer us. I felt a lot of the love that He has for me personally and also of the love that He has for everyone.

This weekend, we had the wondrous opportunity to watch General Conference which is where the prophet and apostles of these days speak to us the words of God. They, the servants of God, tell us all that He has in store for us. I was grateful to hear all about the atonement and how the commandments are a gift to us from God. A talk that I really enjoyed was one by Elder Kim B. Clark entitled "Eyes to See and Ears to Hear." He spoke about how the commandments of God are really there to help save us from dangers that we can’t even see. It was a truly amazing talk.

I was truly overjoyed to hear about the miracles that have happened this week with friends, other acquaintances in my life, and especially in my family where the greater part of my family was coming home. In my mother's words, "On our way home from Utah, last night, about 2 miles away from our house, there was a wreck right in front of us. Thank goodness for dad’s awesome driving skills. We're in the HOV Lane, and a car three lanes over in the right lane, spun and spun and came into our lane three lanes of cross traffic. Dad ended up stopping approximately three feet on from the car. A couple other cars got into a serious crash because of this woman. We felt very, very blessed and very protected. We were very, very grateful that dad was alert and that nothing happened. We are so grateful for tender mercies!" How grateful I am for the love of our Heavenly Father who truly looks after each and every one of us!

I love you all. I love you all so much that I invite you all to read and to study to words of the prophets until you start to have them memorized. They truly help us all to become a little bit better than we once were. I love you all, and I'll keep saying it over and over until you all understand and feel my love. If you do not know where to go to find this wonderful source to the word of God, you can go to lds.org.

"And once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about."
- Haruki Murakami

This week was a week where I could really see how much the Lord loves everyone. I have been struggling lately with a bunch of health issues like muscular pain and feeling very fatigued, getting another ingrown toenail removed (sorry I didn’t tell you mom), and getting bitten by a dog. So, I’ve been feeling a little down. These past few weeks have been flying by, but, in a way, it feels like the days never end and only bring sad news. But, I am working through it. I had a lot of hard moments this week, and I feel like I had fallen into a small depression. It was getting hard for me to work. But, I learned something the other day: the Atonement of Jesus Christ covers everything.

EVERYTHING... I learned a lot in those few minutes when I was thinking. I learned about all that the Savior of the world had done for me. He understands. In fact, He knows. He experienced it. I had put limits on the power of His infinite atonement. I now know how powerful His sacrifice for all mankind is. He paid the price for my sins, yes, but He also paid the price for my sufferings and my hardships. Knowing He did all of that makes me understand that it won’t be too hard for me and that I may overcome them with His help. I had just forgotten all that. But, now I know it, and I won’t forget it again.

This week was crazy with a group of investigators! We found a group of Haitians, and we went to teach them about the restoration. It was going to be great, and then we learned that one of their friends only speaks French and Creole (the language of Haiti). We taught them and prayed for the gift of tongues. As we taught, I began to understand what they were saying!!! It was awesome. They are so receptive to the message, and I feel like we will be able to give them a day to be baptized.

This week was really good for me. I was able to feel the power of the atonement and the power of the spirit. I hope that you are able to feel it in your life as well, for it is always there. Recognize what the atonement does for you. It will never fail you. Hope you have a great week. Love you all!

"We never need to feel that we are alone or unloved in the Lord's service because we never are. We can feel the love of God. The Savior has promised angels on our left and our right to bear us up. And He always keeps His word."
- Henry B. Eyring

It has definitely been a crazy week! We spent a lot of time under the burning, radioactive sun here in Chile trying to find new people to teach. It’s been a little hard because we had the Chilean Independence Day the 18th this past week! It was pretty crazy!! We were walking a lot that day because everyone was either out of town, didn’t want to talk with us, or they were too drunk to comprehend us. But, it was interesting. We also started something new here in our area. We are offering English classes twice a week to help others to learn, and we are hoping to use this opportunity to try and find new investigators. Below is a picture of our first class. And some of the traditional apparel that the Chileans wear here on the 18th.

This week, I have been able to see a lot of miracles happen! People have opened up to us that hadn’t before, and we saw a lot of people hate us even more. Just yesterday, I had a dog come running at me, ready to eat me, and it went to bite me, and... nothing. My comp freaked out a little actually. It was interesting. It just goes to show that our Heavenly Father won’t let any harm come upon his servants. And then, we entered an area to speak with a group of people, and they were surprised that the dogs weren’t eating us. It was funny to me.

This week was a moment for me to really realize that I need to always see the blessings that come in my life. Sometimes, we don’t see what goes on in front of our own eyes. But, the hand of the Lord is everywhere. Miracles always are happening. We just need to recognize where they come from. That’s my invitation to you all this week: to remember what the Lord has done for you and to remember that there are many things that we can’t even see that happen. Be grateful for everything that happens.

Have a great week!

"If someone isn't what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but non about his or her own."
- Paulo Coelho

It has been a great week of working the sector this week! I actually had a crazy week because there is something that goes on here called "jovenes combatientes." Basically, the teenagers go crazy and destroy stuff for a day because of something that happened in history a LONG time ago. But, all is well. We just had to come home earlier. But, it was a great week to work and talk to people. The weather seems to be changing unfortunately which means that I will start to burn again in the sun.
But, this week was awesome! I received exchanges and got a new companion named Elder Torrejón from Peru. He is a great guy! We are already amazing friends, and we are tearing it up in this sector. We have been able to find all kinds of new people to teach!

We did something a little different this week. We set up a booth to talk with people. We were there for 2 hours in the morning, and I can't believe all the nasty things that people said to us. It hurt a lot. But, as I was lost the desire to continue talking, I felt a voice penetrate my soul that said, "They have not rejected you... they have rejected me." It was a moment for me to really feel how our Father in heaven must feel. It was sad, but I know that we were doing our job. For that, I am grateful to be here.

I love you all and hope that you all have a great week.

"Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"
- Matthew 7:9-11

This week, we were able to see the fruits of our labor. We saw all the hard work that we have been doing here be rewarded with blessings. It appears as if my comp will be leaving me, and I will stay here in this sector to continue working. But, all is well; I will miss a great friend, and it will be great to be able to continue hearing from him in the future.

We were able to find a bunch more investigators than we were finding before. We are still working hard as always, and we were blessed! It was a great week, teaching all kinds of people that have been yearning to hear from the missionaries and putting people at ease about the purpose of life and all that it holds for us. It was really great to see all the work that we were able to do together these 6 weeks. I was really glad to have been able to participate in this miracle. We have a strong ward now. People feel much closer to one another, and they socialize more. It has been a great change!

Today, I'd like to share a short scripture that we shared this week that I really liked. It is in Matthew 7:9-11. It talks about how even parents know how to give good gifts; so it is the same with our Heavenly Father who is willing to give us all He has. I testify to you all that we truly have a loving Heavenly Father who watches over us and is always thinking about us. I invite you all to watch the link below because it really helps me to remember my relationship with the Father.

"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall sound forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."
- Helaman 5:12

This week was really good. We were able to work hard. I love all the work that is to be found here. Walking a lot is really great, and the heat has started here in Chile! That means that we will be able to find more people! I love the time here.

This past week, we channeled our efforts into an activity that we have had planned for a long time. It was a giant get-together dessert night here in the chapel. We had that activity this past Friday, and we were able to have a good turnout. We had a great time together in this activity!

We started out the activity with a few games and got everyone to get to know one another a bit more; we joked together, played hard, and we all had a great time and grew closer together, every one of us. We then enjoyed a dessert that everyone made. Someone brought one dessert, someone brought another... and it was all amazing. We loved the amazing activity.

I hope that you all have a great week, and read Helaman 5:12.

Love you all!

"Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God."
- Helaman 3:35

This week was crazy!!! A lot of people are popping out of the woodwork, a lot of people are asking us to come teach them, and a lot of really weird people... sounds like a great week to me! By 'a lot' of people, I mean a lot more than normal for me in this area. But, we have been able to find a good amount of people this past week who have needed our help.

I really felt like I was home this week. I got to go on exchanges with an old companion of mine, so it was really fun! We were able to do a lot together, and it was a really fun time together. We had a contact who we met when we were walking past a park, and I felt something say to me to look at someone. So I did, and I didn’t know what to do. So I started walking towards him, and I walked past him because I didn’t know what to say. We walked around the block for like a minute and came back to him. Still not knowing what to say, I talked with him, "How are you doing?" He said, "I’m doing really bad." I asked him, "Oh, what’s wrong?" And he proceeded to explain everything. After I listened to him, I said, "Well, I know what can help you." I pulled out a picture of Jesus Christ, and I asked him if he knew who Christ was. He said yes and started to talk and open up more which lead to a great chat about the plan of happiness. I felt like the words filled my mouth. I wasn’t the person talking; it was the Spirit of the Lord. At the end, he accepted a visit from the missionaries with a lot of joy and seemed REALLY interested. It was a great contact.

I was also able to go to the temple this week to do a tour of the outside with a member, and it was amazing! We were able to enter a little bit, and in those moments of peace and quiet, I felt like I was home again with our Father in Heaven. It was such a sweet feeling!

I was able to find much comfort this week in a scripture found in Helaman 3:35. I'm still not sure why, but I keep reading it. This scripture has helped me feel at peace all week long even when there were hard moments.

I hope you all have a great week and continue to follow Christ! Be good!

"Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life."
- 2 Nephi 31:20

This week, I would only like to write about a few things: the hope that faith in Christ brings, and the power that we can feel as we walk in paths that are correct even if we must do so alone.

This week, I studied the scriptures a lot. All I found was great amounts of peace and joy as I did so. I have learned that faith is the firm belief in something that leads us to action. When our faith is based in Christ, it becomes that action to apply His teachings and His atonement in our lives. I have learned that as we truly do that which we know is right while putting our faith in Christ, we are able to receive His spirit, receive His help, and receive His direction. I’ve felt that this week Satan and his demons have been trying to work on me to discourage me. But, through prayer and the scriptures, I feel the power of the Lord in my life.

I have seen this week that as we follow our faith--even if we must walk alone--and as we follow the correct paths that Christ had laid for us to follow, we are truly lifted up in your burdens. It never was meant to be something easy; following Christ requires sacrifice and a lot of work, but, IT IS POSSIBLE. I’ve been able to see that in my mission, especially this week. As members, we do things that are different, and even weird to some people, but it is correct. It is the teachings of Christ, so why should we falter? You keep walking. You keep trying. It will all be alright in the end. I so promise and testify.

I love you all, and I hope that you have had a good week. I share these things because the people that we are teaching have told us their experiences. These are the thing I learned over and over again this week.

"Stay on the Lord's side, and you will win every time."
- Richard G. Scott

About 4-5 weeks ago, we had a fast here in Chile. We needed rain badly. Since that fast, we not only have had a bit of rain, but a TON of rain!!! It has had such a great effect that it has changed the whole climate here in Chile! Now, the streets are filled with rain, and the mountains are filled with whiteness of snow! It has been amazing to see the change here! I’m so glad to be here to experience this miracle from the blessings of fasting!

This week was really hard because there still wasn’t anyone, but we have received names of people to visit. We were able to see the change in people when they told us that they want to come back to church! We had someone that we had passed by during the week call us during our nightly planning session, and he told us to come by at 5 in the afternoon the following day. It was amazing to really see how much the Lord has prepared people to come back to the fold of God! He came to church, and he wants to go serve a mission!!! It is so great to be a missionary and find someone who wants to go out and save souls also!!

This week was really full of learning because we didn’t have anyone to really pass for, but we did have people who wanted us to pass by later in the week!

The power of faith, which really is a result of righteousness and also obedience, is what leads us to do things that we normally do. Being human beings that try to think "rationally," but as we trust in the Lord, we are able to know what to do!
Hope that you all have a great week and continue to grow in your faith in Christ!

"Every trial and experience you have passed through is necessary for your salvation."
- Brigham Young

I’ve said it before, and I'll say it again... this week was hard! I received my new companion, Elder Jasse from Cordoba, Argentina. He has been out for about a year and 5 months. He loves soccer, and he is a great guy and an even better friend! The work this week was really hard because we are basically in a whitewash (meaning that we don’t know much of the area), and we are working to find all new investigators and trying to start the work here again. I’m not going to lie, this week was full of lists of people to find, doors slammed in our faces, and people using a word that anyone in America would understand. The word is "NO." It was really hard, and all I wanted to do was keep going. But it hurt... it really did. I felt like heaven was sad because so many people said no. I probably heard that word more this week than I have in probably a full month. It was fun because I got to walk and walk and walk. I felt a change in myself this week as I felt that I was able to keep my confidence and excitement high. I usually would have felt really sad earlier on in my mission.

Truly this week was hard and crazy. But full of great experiences to learn from and learn more about myself. This week was full of changes, and I was able to grow more and learn.

Sorry it was so short. I hope next week I can write more. Love you all and have a good week!!!

"But God doesn't call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn't come through."
- Francis Chan

This week was amazing! We had a baptism in the ward, and through crazy circumstances, I was able to teach the young woman who was baptized! I felt included in everything, and I felt even better to watch her get baptized!! It was amazing, and she is truly an amazing convert to the church and living proof that God prepares souls.

This week I said goodbye to my companion, Elder Lima, because he had to go home to Brazil. It was sad to say goodbye because he is such a good friend, and I will miss him. He helped a lot in this ward to help it grow and become stronger. He will be missed.

We had an activity this week called "cine Mormon" (Mormon movie theater) which was a great hit in the ward! We had such a large amount of people come and enjoy the movie "17 Miracles" and be able to feel the Spirit. It was great. All the members and investigators that came loved it and were able to share their feelings with us. This activity was just one of the many activities that we have planned for this ward to become more unified.

I also had a great lesson last night! We were expecting to receive our calls about changes last night, and it was really crazy in our apartment. Everyone has been telling me that I would be training, and I really don’t want to because the idea of doing that scares me. I was so nervous, and the other elders would call me every now and again to scare me because I was so anxious. So, I began to pray. I was praying for peace in my soul and in my heart, and strangely I found myself beginning to pray saying, "Everything following thy will" (translating from Spanish). I was actually really surprised that I had said that in my prayer, but I took it to be what I needed because after I said that, I felt the peace that I needed. I still don’t know if I’m training, I assume that I’m not, but who knows? I am so glad that I learned the lesson that when we put the problems that we have into the trust of the Lord, He will carry us. I am reminded of a Mormon message that I saw a little bit ago called "The Will of God" (http://www.mormonchannel.org/watch/series/mormon-messages/the-will-of-god-2), and I really begin to remember that everything IS following the will of God. Even when what happens to us may be hard, when we put our trust in God, He will guide us and help us.

I love you all so very much, and I hope that you all have a fantastic week!! I’d love to hear from y'all again! And did I mention these 2 important things?? 1- Our day to write in now on Tuesdays... and I completed a year in the mission a few weeks ago?

"And the Lord called his people ZION, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them."
- Moses 7:18

Bueno, decidí para escribir en español ahora. porque es difícil a escribir en ingles. Estoy hablando cien por ciento en Español en estés días porque vivo con 3 Latinos (Well, I decided to write in Spanish now because it is difficult to write in English. I'm talking one hundred percent in Spanish these days because I live with 3 Latinos)... but, I guess I'll switch to English so you don’t have to throw it in the translator. This week was great! I learned a great lesson from the spirit about unity.

Elder Gale walking in the street at night in Chile and coming home from a successful day at work.

This past Sunday, I was assigned to talk, but I was able to decide what I wanted to talk about. I had no idea what I was going to speak about, but, as I was studying the scripture masteries (the 100 scriptures that we should have memorized), I came across one in the book of Moses 7:18. I read it, and I knew that it was what I needed to speak about. So, I broke it down into 3 parts, and I used those for my talk. I used the first part that says, "And the lord called his people Zion..." I took that to talk about the stakes of the church which is made of wards which are made of the members, or US. So, this scripture talks directly to us as members.

A picture of a lighthouse Elder Gale found to remind everyone to be the director towards a safe harbor for those that need comfort.

Then, I took the second part "and they were one in heart and will" (I’m translating from Spanish and in my head...), and I took that to mean that they were one, because if they aren’t one, then they are like the people in 4th Nephi who became separated and were not able to work together. I used the scriptures in 1 Corinthians 1:10 and D&C 38:27 to expound on that idea, and it really focuses on how we need to be one, or unified. I don’t remember what I talked about really because I was speaking by the spirit, but my comp recorded what I said. I will have it soon. But, it was amazing for me to speak because as I began, I was filled with the spirit and I was able to speak even better than I’ve been able to do before. I felt scriptures leave my mouth, and I could see the words the spirit directed me to say have an impact on people.

The final part of the scripture is my favorite... "that there were no poor among them." I take that to not mean poor as in without money, but as in poor in spirit, or poor as in feeling like they don’t have much self-worth. It truly hit me, and I loved it. It was a great experience for me to speak by the spirit, and I’m glad that the Lord blessed me in that moment to speak directly to the hearts of the people. But, to continue about the "poor," I related it to the members to do their visits, to serve, to help, and to love so that there would not be poor people among them.

Well, that was my talk, but it was amazing. I loved it, and I’m so grateful to my father in heaven to help me to speak to these people. My invitation to all of you would be to visit the poor. not just the poor in money, but those who are poor in spirit, those who feel alone, those who need comfort, that there may be no poor among us.

I hope that you all have a great week, and I love and miss you all.

"Healing rain is a real touch from God. It could be physical healing or emotional or whatever."
- Michael W. Smith

This week was interesting. We worked hard, really hard. We found lots of people and relied on the Lord to help us in the work. Everything this week was crazy. We had predictions from members about us not getting any more rain and that it would just stay dry, but thanks to the fast we did last week, it rained for about 2-3 days straight. Now, there is plenty of snow up in the mountains, and the temperature has dropped to about -5 degrees Celsius here. I’m wearing a sweater, a jacket, and a scarf which is something I’d never have to do in Arizona. I’m only doing it so I don’t get sick here because getting sick is the worst thing ever in the mission field. Thanks to the rain, this country can have the pollution level lowered almost to 0%, and I can breathe a lot easier! Therefore, it is a week of healing.

Also, this week we had to do exchanges where I was with another missionary for 24 hours, and I had to do it twice. So for two days I was in a different part of Chile!! It was a lot of fun to learn from my mission leaders and to be in a different part of the mission. For me, it was a time of healing because I was able to try new things in a sector and be able to meet all kinds of people who want to change.

This week was hectic... but oh so worth it.

"I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise."
- Doctrine and Covenants 82:10

This week, we had a lot of progress in the area!!! We had many meetings this week to get the ward activities started up again. We came up with many ideas to unite the ward and encourage investigators to come. It was amazing to see all the ward participate this week and to see the change in their hearts! It was a great week.

We said goodbye last week to our old mission president, and said hello to our new mission president. He is a great guy, and we all love him!

This week, we had a miracle. We had a promise that if we fasted, we would have rain here in Chile. Well, we fasted, and we had rain!!!!!!!!! Just goes to show that GOD WILL NOT LEAVE US ALONE! He will bless us if we do what he asks! (Doctrine and Covenants 82:10)

I’m sorry this one is so short, but we had a week that was basically encapsulated in a few sentences. But not even all the books in the world could hold the feelings we had this week.

It was great for me to hear about an investigator that I had in my old sector get baptized this past week. It truly filled me with joy. I’m glad to be here, and I know this work to be true. I have no doubt in my heart, mind, or soul of the truthfulness of this church and its teachings having been restored by Jesus Christ through his prophet Joseph Smith. I would not be out here still if I did not know this singular truth. God loves us, and He will and is supporting us in our trials.

I love you and hope that you are enjoying life wherever you may be.

"Our natural gifts and abilities are limited, but when augmented by inspiration and guidance of the Holy Ghost, our potential increases many fold."
- Elder James E. Faust

This week has been full of many opportunities to share the gospel, both formal, informal, and some in between. I am in a new area, and I love it. There is a lot of work to do here with the ward, the investigators, the recent converts, the less-actives, and those who don’t even know about the gospel. My sector is weirdly set up in the fact that it is majority of factories and not so many houses, but I still love this area and am hitting the ground running even with people I don’t even know.

I had a great experience to give service to a family as we made the concrete for their home and worked on this in the blazing hot sun. Yes, I said blazing hot because the weather can’t decide if it is summer or winter here. It was great, and we loved the work as we made the concrete very fast and covered the whole floor, and it is soon ready to be inhabitable. It will only take a little bit of time for them to finish everything in the house, and it will be all ready.

Two of the other missionaries with Elder Gale. The one taking the picture transferred with Elder Gale, and they have been together the entire mission. The other missionary is Elder Gale's companion, Elder Lima.

I also had a very spiritual experience just yesterday when we went to a house and had lunch. One of the daughters started talking with me. As we were chatting, she told me how she didn’t find a reason to be in the church or to follow the "rules of the church" as she called it. I talked with her, and she is not a member. I was able to share with her the scriptures that she needed to hear because the spirit directed my words, and she was able to feel it as well. It was great for her, and she promised me that she would come to church this next Sunday. I felt the spirit promise her many things in her life that I just knew in my heart were affecting her, and she accepted the invitation.

In this area, I have been impressed to make many promises to people that I would not have normally make for fear of it just being myself, but I followed the Spirit. That’s why I am here. I am grateful for the power of the spirit in my life, and the influence it has for me to help those who fall in my path. I invite all of you to do something this week, and I want to hear what you have done. The scriptures I share the most here are John 7:17, Mosiah 2:41, and Doctrine and Covenants 82:10. I want you to read these scriptures and apply something into your life that is a commandment. Do it. You will receive your testimony on it, and you will be blessed. What’s better than being blessed? I wish you all a very wonderful week, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

"Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change."
- Mary Shelley

I have had transfers this week, and it looks like I had to be the one to get switched. I now have a new companion named Elder Lima from Brazil who will be going home in 6 weeks, so it will be awesome to work with him to the end. I am in a new area with a new apartment. It is strange to be moved from my old sector. I have only been in one sector for about 10 months now... how strange is that? Now, I am in a new area, and I get to learn everything all over again.

This whole past week was really good. We were able to do all that is necessary and passed by many people. We had a baptism planned for this week. It fell through, but he will be baptized in a week or two. Sad, but, he still wants to be baptized. I had the zone leaders in my pension to tell me the changes for this next transfer, and they told me the news that I was leaving. I was sad that I have to go, but I knew that I had to. So, I began to pack my bags... thinking of everything that had happened and how much I was going to miss the ward.

Sunday came, and as I’m standing and counting all the members that are there. We begin to share testimonies, and the bishop`s wife gets up and announces to the ward about my change. Then, the whole ward looks back to where I am, and they all look sad. I had the opportunity to say good bye to them in the chapel, and as we were saying our farewells, a brother in the ward comes, hugs me, kisses me, wishes me well, and then hugs me again and kisses me again. I’m really going to miss that brother. I had many people tell me goodbye. Many members wanted to hug me, and I felt so sad to have to leave. The ward is amazing, and I will miss all of them.

As I came today to the area to be changed, another brother in the ward took us in his car with all of my things, and we got there. I just kept waiting for the call to say that it was all a joke and that I wasn’t really leaving. But, it never came. Now, I am all unpacked in my new apartment, and I see now that this is no joke. I am also in an apartment with only Latinos which means 100% Spanish at all times. I’m going to learn so much Spanish and forget so much English. Even after being out here, at times I forget words and speak in Spanglish, but, I guess I will speak only Spanish now. I am very excited for this change in my mission and ready to go out and work even harder in a new place with new people. I’m so ready!

"If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, thy holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it."
- Isaiah 58: 13-14

We had a very interesting week here in the mish. First off, I still have my toe after my in-grown toenail surgery, and I am currently walking (more or less) but, still loving the mission. It was a lot of fun!

This week, we were blessed to have many members accompany us in our lessons, and really, we didn’t have to talk at all because the members knew what to teach and what the investigators needed to hear the most. It was amazing because usually we do a lot of talking, and in a few cases, we have more of a discussion. Sometimes all we do is talk a little here and there. It was great to just sit and listen as our members were both teaching and being taught.

So, about my in-grown toenail... I have had it for about 5-6 weeks now. I finally got it removed because we just got our mission doctor, and there was scheduling problems. I am now relieved from that pain in the foot and able to work hard again. We were able to have a few days of rest because I was forbidden to walk for 2 days, and then I was told to only walk a little on the third day (yesterday). Now today, we are working and loving our time outside.

I saw something odd yesterday. As we are walking in our sector and were heading home, we look to the ground and see something really weird. We aren’t sure what it is. Then we looked into the street, and there is another one. Then we look up and see in the median the rest. I won’t say much for those that are queasy of stomach, but we what we were seeing was a dismembered dog. It was really weird, and we were both awestruck and unable to say anything.

But, on a lighter note, we had stake conference yesterday, and we heard a lot about the Sabbath day and about tithing. We had a new stake president called and a new seventy called who is actually the old stake president. So, I want you all to know just how important these two things are. I love the scripture in Isaiah 58:13-14 talking about the Sabbath day. It speaks about what we must do and about what are some of the blessings that we will receive if we sanctify the Sabbath day. I loved what Elder Russell M. Nelson said this past conference about the Sabbath day about something we should really think about: "What sign do I want to give to God?" I testify of the importance of the Sabbath day, and I encourage all of you to obey it and to keep it holy. I would also encourage you to pay your tithing. In Malachi 3:8-10, it speaks of all the blessings we will receive if we pay our tithing. I testify to you all about the importance of these two commandments in our day for the growth of Zion in these the latter days.

Thank you all so much for the love and support that I receive from back home! I am so glad to hear from y’all and all that you are doing. It truly makes me joyous to hear about your lives, and I always wish to hear more and to be able to just hug you all. I testify to all of you about the truth of this church and that the church of God has been restored in these latter days through the prophet Joseph Smith.

Lots of love and prayers for all of you!

"And now, my beloved brethern, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save. Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life."
- 2 Nephi 31: 19-20

This week was a long and very full one. I feel like it has been at least 2-3 weeks since I have been on here emailing home. We have been swamped with work. We have been working on finding all the members who haven’t been to church in a few months or longer, and we've been working with our investigators to approach baptismal dates soon. We also have had many meeting this week, and we have been working like chickens with our heads cut off. We have been coming into our apartment at night, plan really quickly, and then sleep so fast.

The mission is going so well. I love all that I am learning. I feel like this is the best decision I have made in my life: to leave and serve for two years of my life. I love it!

Well, this past Tuesday, we had a death of a member in our ward. It was really sad, but it was also so amazing because the family has a firm testimony of the plan of salvation and are continuing to have a good life as they rely on the plan. It is also a blessing because the member who died is no longer in pain, is in a better place, and also because her husband is now bringing themselves closer to the gospel of Christ. It was great to think about Mosiah 16:8-9 and how the atoning sacrifice of Christ is more than sufficient to save us from being defeated by physical death.

We have also had the great opportunity to give service to a member as he hasn’t been able to do much for himself being swamped with work. It was awesome, because at the end, he let me take a ride on his awesome bicycle. I have been dying to ride a bicycle during my mission. I miss bike rides. But, the service was just as awesome because we were able to help him out and able to feel the amazing spirit that service brings!

Espero que todos continuan a firmar al barro de hierro y continuan a alcanzar la vida eterna. (2 Nephi 31:19-20)

Les amo muchísimo y gracias por todo del apoyo que me dan.
(I love you so much, and thank you for all the support you give me!)

"Never be so busy as not to think of others."
- Mother Teresa

Another great week, as before. I can never get enough of a kick out of it, but I love it here! The mission is amazing. We have so many people rapidly approaching the waters of baptism and growing closer to their Father in Heaven; I’m too excited!! It’s amazing to watch people change and grow.

Well, we had a rather splendid week as we were able to find many new people to teach and bring to the waters of baptism. It was really awesome. The best things of this week were 1- when our mission president surprised us with a call telling us that he was coming to our apartment to study with us... YIKES!!!! 2- Doing divisions with my zone leader who is a cousin to the guy my sister is going to marry... we are going to be related!! YIKES!! 3- I have ANOTHER ingrown toenail... the pain never ends with this one. But, I still love it here in the field. I am so glad to be here in Chile in a time where many people are willing to listen to the restored gospel of Christ. This week was really fun as we were scrambling around from place to place practically running everywhere, trying to get everything done as missionaries and finding new people.

Time has come to a close. Sorry that it is so short this week, but I hope that you all have time to read and study your scriptures and pray. If you find yourself to be too busy, you are more busy than God ever intended for you to be. I hope that we can all be able to grow to be like the Stripling Warriors of the Book of Mormon who, by the small and simple things, were able to bring to pass a great miracle for their people. Strengthen your testimonies, stand firm, and know that God loves you.

I love you all and am so grateful for your support. Hope this next week is even more amazing!

"My trust in God flows out of the experience of his loving me, day in and day out, whether the day is stormy or fair, whether I'm sick of in good health, whether I'm and a state of grace or disgrace. He comes to me where I live and loves me as I am."
- Brennan Manning

Well, another week has come and passed so quickly. It is crazy to think of all that has happened. We have had so many sad and happy moments this week. It was really sad as we had to drop a bunch of people from our teaching lists, a lot of people who have not been able to keep the desire to learn and to progress in the gospel. It was a really sad thing, but we had to do it. Oh well, everyone has their own time when things will finally become clear and the need to come unto Christ will be made known.
We had some happy moments as we were able to continue teaching our investigators who are rapidly approaching their baptismal dates, and it is amazing to watch them progress and continue to grow. I love watching the spirit work within them as we help them in their path towards baptism and, eventually, the temple.

I am so glad to be out here in Chile. I love this work as a missionary, and I am so glad for this opportunity I have to teach my spiritual brothers and sisters who are searching for the truth in a world of lies. How great I am to be a messenger of the truth! It is a great time to be a missionary as there are many people who are searching for the hope and peace that his gospel brings. I testify that Our Heavenly Father loves us and is always there to help us. I testify of the great love that He has for each and every one of us. I know because I have felt it for myself, and I am so glad to be able to spread this love to all those who come into my path.

I love you all and hope that you all have a great week and continue to grow personally in your testimonies of our loving Heavenly Father.

Much love,

Elder Gale
